Active verb: to show what the subject does
adjective: to describe a noun
adverb: to modify a verb or an adjective
adverb particle, e.g. Please turn the light "on". part of a phrasal verb, can be used after objects.
affirmative: a positive statement
non-defining article: a, an
defining article: the
infinitive=basic verb form
common noun=name of people, objects, ideas, places in general=opposite of proper noun
comparative adjective/ adverb: comparing 2 things/ describing an action
conditional: to show scientific fact, sth that will very likely happen; imaginary situation; a wish to change sth  happened in the past which is impossible to do so at the time of speaking
connectives: and, or but, because
conjunction: nevertheless, however,
continuous/ progressive: to describe an on-going action
contraction: short form like haven't, can't, don't
countable noun: noun which can have a plural form
defining relative clause=identifying relative clause: a clause which identifies the noun that it refers to
demonstrative pronoun: this, that, these, those, to point out a particular subject
determiner: a, an, the, some, few, many, most, all, none, each, every, used before noun to determine how we understand the noun
direct speech: a speech made by the original speaker
future simple: to talk about future actions
gerund, a noun ending in -ing but not in progressive form
imperative=cerb to give an order/ suggestions/ instruction
infinitive: root form of a verb
interrogative: a question form with do, have be or wh-word, e.g. Are you happy? Who are you?
irregular cerb: verbs that don't follow normal rules and end in 'ed'
negative: sentence with not, no or never
noun: a name of a place, an idea, an object, a person
noun phrase: a group of words that made up a noun
object: a noun used after the verb
passive verb: to show the receiver of an action
past continuous: an ongoing action in the past
past simple, an action happened in the past which has no connect to the present
present perfect: an action happened in the past but the effect continues to the present
personal pronoun=subject pronoun+object pronoun=I, we, he, she, it, they, you, them, our, his, her, its, yours and theirs
phrasal verb: a verb formed by verb+preposition/ adverb particle
possessive pronoun: to show the owner of sth, e.g. mine, yours, his, hers, its, theirs, ours
predicative: to show what the subject does, e.g. sing a song, play mahjong
preposition: in, on, at, to, from, of, for, to show the relationship between the subject and the rest of the sentence
statement: a sentence ends in a full stop
subject: a noun before a verb
subordinate clause: a half-sentence which cannot stand alone, but form part of a sentence
superlative: comparing degree of 3 things/ 3 actions
verb: to show an action,
simple present: do
present continuous: am doing
present perfect: have done
present perfect continuous: have been doing
simple past: did
past continuous: was doing
past perfect: had done
past perfect continuous: had been doing
simple future: will do
future continuous: will be doing
future perfect: will have done
